Screenless band vs smartwatch: which should your brand launch first?
Most brands entering wearables assume their first product has to be a smartwatch. More and more of them are launching a screenless band instead. Here is how the two compare, and how to decide which one fits your brand right now.
Quick answer: if your customers mainly want health insights, sleep tracking and a band they never take off, launch a screenless band first — it charges every 10 to 50 days depending on the model and is simple to customize. If they want to read information on the wrist or want a watch look, start with a watch.
| Screenless band (our range) | Smart quartz watch (DS09 / DS11) | |
|---|---|---|
| Display | None — insights in the app | Analog watch face |
| Typical use per charge | About 10–50 days, by model | About 12–16 days |
| Water resistance | IP68 + 3ATM on most models; IP68 + 5ATM on DS500 | IP67 |
| Best for | Health insights, sleep, all-day wear | Gift channels, social commerce, a watch look |
What is a screenless band?

A screenless band is a health and activity tracker with no display. The band measures continuously — heart rate, sleep, activity and, on some models, HRV, stress, temperature or ECG — and the app on the user's phone turns that data into answers. Instead of glancing at a screen, the user opens the app once or twice a day.
We started screenless-band R&D in the second half of 2024, while the category was still a niche. Today we have more than 20 screenless models in production.
Battery life: weeks instead of days
Without a screen to power, a band lasts far longer between charges.

Typical use on our screenless models:
- H59 / DS05 / DS10: 20–30 days
- H59 Max: 45–50 days
- DS500 (flagship, with richer health features): 10–12 days
Long battery life matters more than it sounds. Every charge is a moment when the band comes off the wrist, and a band that stays on the wrist is a band that keeps collecting data and keeps the user engaged with your app.
Comfort and all-day wear
Screenless bands are designed to be worn day and night, and the night is exactly where sleep and recovery data comes from. With no notifications lighting up the wrist, they also suit users who want tracking without distraction. Most of our screenless models are rated IP68 + 3ATM, and DS500 is IP68 + 5ATM.
Where a smartwatch still makes sense
A smartwatch is the right choice when your customers want to see information on the wrist — time, messages, workout data in real time — or when your brand is built around a watch look.

If you sell through gift channels or social and content-driven e-commerce, also look at our smart quartz watches, DS09 and DS11. They combine a classic analog watch face with smart tracking, so they present well as a gift and in short videos, and they run about 12–16 days between charges.
The business case for launching screenless first
- A simpler product to customize. Engraving, colors, straps, boot logo, Bluetooth name and app language cover most of what makes the product yours, with MOQs from 500 units.
- A clear story for customers. "Wear it, forget it, get answers" is easy to explain on a product page and in a store.
- The app is the experience. On DS500, for example, an Energy Score summarizes recovery from sleep, heart rate, HRV, stress and activity, and AI health reports turn trends into readable guidance — the reasons users keep opening the app.
- Room to grow. Once a screenless band is selling, you can add ECG models, an AI voice-recorder band (ES100) or couples' models to the same range.

How to choose
Ask three questions:
- Do your customers need to read information on the wrist? If yes, start with a watch. If they mainly want health insights, a screenless band fits.
- How important is all-day and overnight wear? The more your story depends on sleep and recovery, the stronger the case for screenless.
- How fast do you want to launch? Stock screenless models (H59, H59 MAX, DS05 and DS500) ship neutral orders of up to 200 units within 1–3 days, and customized orders take about 30 days after sample approval.
Still unsure? Order samples of two or three models and let your team wear them for a week. Browse our screenless bands, see the DS500 flagship, or ask Leo for a recommendation for your market.
